Ocean Park, BC
The kitchen and powder room were taken down to the studs in this family home. A sightline was created from the front door through to the kitchen and back yard, and the door to the powder room was moved from the kitchen to the front hallway for increased privacy. This change eliminated an awkward hallway, created the space for the bar area and a walk-in pantry, and increased the size of the powder room.
We were able to raise the kitchen ceiling an additional 12” and add new windows across the sink wall to really open up the space. The new windows were placed at counter height to create a “cottage-y” feel, which was amplified with many of the other design elements. The bar area was detailed to look like a stand-alone hutch, appliances panelled, reeded glass and slat panel accents, and a classic white & navy palette was complemented with warm woods and unlacquered brass hardware. The client was heavily involved in the design process sourcing the plumbing fixtures, cabinetry hardware, and antique light fixtures. She and her mum made the adorable café curtains.
The new layout for the powder room became much more functional, and the shower doubled in size. The navy from the kitchen was carried through here for a full-on moody vibe, with wainscoting, the client’s delicate floral wallpaper, unlacquered brass hardware, and antique light fixtures. The husband built the beautiful vanity cabinet!
